Popular Costumes

Popular Halloween costumes change from year to year. Their popularity is influenced by all the popular movies and TV shows, music superstars, politics and cartoon characters. Each October, the National Retail Federation comes up with a list of the well-liked costumes for the up coming season. What ends up on the “most popular” list depends on what is hot in the media for the current year. Some other popular Halloween costumes are long-time classics such as fairies, cheerleaders, vampires and clowns. Disney characters are eternal favorites.

Costumes for teen and pre-teens are influenced by the darker side of Halloween. They seem to like anything from the Gothic sub-culture – skulls, black, darkness. Popular costumes range from Vampires and Witches to Fallen Angels and Demons.

Halloween costumes for babies are most often the Disney characters and animals. Young children are more apt to choose costumes that are influenced by TV shows, movies and cartoon characters. Princess, Spider Man, Pirate, Witch, Fairy, Disney Princess, Star Wars Character, Pumpkin, Ghost and Power Ranger.

Adults tend to choose their costumes from their fantasies or what they see at the Movies. Some popular adult costumes are Sexy Nurse, French Maid, Seductive Vampire, Batman, or Robin Hood.

You don’t need to be a seamstress in order to make your costume. Creativity is an asset, but if you lack creativity do some research online and get ideas. Check your closet to see if you have any old clothes that would ideal for a costume. Use items around the house for costume accessories and choose makeup instead of a mask. If the costume is for your child, get them involved.

Trick-or-Treat safety is very important. If your children are young, be sure they are accompanied by an adult. If they are old enough to be on their own, suggest that they travel in groups and never on their own. Going to a Halloween Party is always a better option than door-to-door activities. It is safer and not dependent on the weather.

Your cat or dog is a member of the family, so why not let them dress up. Some pets remain at home and greet the little trick-or-treaters, while some pets accompany the other family members on the door-to-door parade. Research the web to see all the pet costumes that are available. Halloween is a fun day for everyone, including your pet.

Be sure to research what costume is best for you. You can look in retail stores, catalogs and on the internet. Your choices are unlimited. Once you decide on a costume to buy, it is best to purchase it right away so that you are not disappointed when they are sold out, especially if you take a special size.
