Choosing Between Moissanite And Diamonds For Rings

by Nicole Swanson

Some say that there can be no true price to beauty, but these people obviously have never found themselves needing to buy something for themselves or someone close to them. High prices can make people consider jewelry which is unconventional.

Concerning rings, there is no gemstone which has the reputation for beauty and luxury like the diamond. Is it worth considering diamond alternatives then? Can other gems attain the resplendence of this time honored standard?

There are two primary gemstones which act as competition for diamonds. These are moissanite and cubic zirconia. The latter has a terrible reputation as something cheap, gaudy, and somewhat fake. CZ rings should never be chosen in place of diamonds.

Moissanite rings are relatively new, and many people do not even know that they exist. Since 1998, these beauties have gained increasing amounts of popularity for their colorless radiance and shine. Some even think they look better than diamonds do!

The main negative of moissanite is that it’s always a synthetic stone, no matter how large or small. This means that no moissanite ring can claim the natural beauty and grace that diamond rings can. If synthetic gems are a deal breaker, don’t consider moissanite.

Gemologists have concluded that relative to diamond, moissanite shows great brilliance, fire, and luster. This means that they may look even better than the industry standard so long as they’re cut well and displayed properly.

Where moissanite rings really shine is price. Diamond rings of similar quality can cost two or three times as much as a moissanite one easily. This may mean having to settle for a smaller stone or one of lower clarity.

Moissanite rings offer a whole lot of value, with the downside that they are synthetic pieces. Diamond rings can claim ultimate fame, reputation, and glory. Both are amazingly beautiful elegant, and you can’t go wrong no matter which one you choose.
