If you are considering selling gold items or old gold jewelry, it may help you if you know a little about the different types of gold. You may have gold and not be aware of it or have pieces you believe are gold that are not. Items that are real gold will have an inscription stating they are 14K gold, 12K or 10K, although the standard abroad is 18K gold. Make sure you do not mistake gold plated items for solid gold items, whether it’s jewelry or other items. Gold plated will be labeled as such, often as GP.
For the most part there are two major types of gold. The first of which is yellow gold which looks just as you probably picture most gold. White gold which is the other main type of gold is very similar but more silver in color. There are a few other variations such as rose colored gold or red gold but they are much less common.
Many gold buyers also buy other types of precious metals. One such type is platinum. Platinum is very similar to white gold in appearance and is often mistaken for it. But platinum is heavier and is generally more valuable than gold. Since it is much stronger than gold is often more pure in jewelry than gold so jewelry made out of platinum is usually quite valuable.
There are many types of gold jewelry that people sell but one of the most common types have to be class rings. Once you have high schools many people have no use for them. In fact most just put it away in a box never to be seen again. But if your class ring is made of gold it can be quite valuable. And with the rising price old these days it may even be worth more than what you pay for it back then.
Another type of gold that people sell that you wouldn’t necessarily think of right away as dental. Just a few years ago, gold refiners would only get a handful of dental gold every now and then. But now it seems they get on a regular basis. If you have any old bridges or crowns or even fillings made of gold you should consider selling them for cash. Instead of just putting them in a bag to sit in a drawer for years, make some extra spending money. You really shouldn’t have any second thoughts about the selling of the gold as it is pretty worthless to you and I doubt you can have sentimental attachment to dental work.
Now you might wonder how much you can actually get for your gold but there is no real consistent answer. The value of gold changes all the time depending on the market. On top of that it depends a lot on how much you have to sell and how many karats it is. Gold buyers only by gold based on the gold content in the item, so the price can vary greatly from piece to piece. It comes down to just finding a gold refiner who will pay you more than all the others.
